Lifeless is the first encounter of Antigone Divided. It was performed on 10 May 2019 in an apartment in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, as a fifty-minute improvisation between dancer Leyla Postalcıoğlu and pianist Ayca Daştan.

The work has no fixed score and no set choreography. During the performance Ayrin Ersöz gives spoken themes, words and sentences to the dancer and the musician, and writes the text of the project as it unfolds. The dancer searches for that text through movement and stillness, the musician through sound and silence. Each provokes the other; the two disciplines at times merge and at times break apart.

Like every encounter in Antigone Divided, Lifeless stays away from mimetic representation. The audience does not watch a staging of the tragedy. What reaches them is a dialogue across the ages.

Lifeless, Antigone Divided’ın ilk buluşmasıdır. 10 Mayıs 2019’da İstanbul, Beyoğlu’nda bir apartman dairesinde, dansçı Leyla Postalcıoğlu ile piyanist Ayca Daştan arasında elli dakikalık bir doğaçlama olarak gerçekleşti.

İşin sabit bir partisyonu ya da belirlenmiş bir koreografisi yoktur. Performans sırasında Ayrin Ersöz dansçıya ve müzisyene sözlü temalar, sözcükler ve cümleler verir ve projenin metnini o anda yazar. Dansçı bu metni hareket ve hareketsizlikle, müzisyen ses ve sessizlikle arar. Her biri diğerini kışkırtır; iki disiplin kimi zaman bütünleşir, kimi zaman birbirinden kopar.

Antigone Divided’ın her buluşması gibi Lifeless da her türlü mimetik temsil biçiminden uzak durur. İzleyici bir tragedya temsili ile karşılaşmaz. Ona ulaşan, çağlar ötesi bir diyalogdur.
